Another successful Terry Fox fundraising campaign for our school! We set a goal of $4,000 and raised $5,002.11
The students brought in pledges, leadership students organized a fashion show, bbq lunch, and a dress down day. An event that really brought the school together was "every penny counts-delay the day"-Students brought in change, and the teachers counted first period, while the students watched! The entire school participated in the run on Sept. 28th! This was our 4th year officially particpating, and we have raised at total almost $12,000!
    Cancer-free

Earlier this summer, we received news that my father-in-law has been diagnosed with colon cancer. My young children have been emotionally affected and have kept their dear Grandpa in their bedtime prayers.

One day, the conversation after school was as follows:
'Mom, what is the Terry Fox fundraiser for?' my 5 year old daughter Jaymie asked.
'Well, it's to raise money for cancer research. So that doctors can help people to be cancer free', I reply.
'So then we should raise lots and lots of money so that Grandpa can be cancer free forever!' stated my very enthusiastic 4 year old son Jabriel while emptying the entire contents of his piggy bank for donation.

      Our Terry Fox Run
by Fraser Lake Elem-Sec School, posted on 11:24 AM, October 5, 2011
      To Terry Fox Foundation,

This past week on September 27th our school did our annual Terry Fox Run. The Terry Fox Run is very important to our school and we have done it for many years. We have always used the same route and every student is welcome to participate and we get lots of people participating. This year we even had kids on skateboards and bikes. All the students enjoy doing the run because they know that they are helping to find a cure for cancer and it also gives them a chance to do something different on that day.
The money is collected on the day of the run and the total for this year was $308.08. Our school is very happy to be able to make this donation and knows it is going to a great cause. Thank you for the work that you do!!!

      Sincerely,

      Andrew Schulz, Student

All students take part in the run 575 this year). Our 2011 goal was $10,000 (we made $9800 last year)and we exceeded to to take in $10,447.00! One of our teachers has assembled a Tribute video, where staff and students submit pictures with special acquaintances who have suffered from cancer. We play this in assembly just before we line up for the run outside. It reminds us why we run! The local fire chief started us off on the run a firetruck and sirens, then "back escorted" us until we all got to the first corner. We're proud of our students AND of our run traditions!

The students at Westwood Primary in Cornwall, PEI, bought paper sneakers for 25 cents each during the week of our Terry Fox activities. As an incentive, the school custodian (Paul)and I, ageed to have our heads shaved and our VP at the school (Stewart) agreed to color his hair pink, should the students reach this goal! On Friday morning the students and staff met in the gym to celebrate raising $1169 for this great charity and to cheer on two new haircuts and a color! Thanks to Mrs. Ross and Mrs. Moore for organizing the week and to the students for doing such a great job!
      Why I run
by Thomas Dennis, posted on 1:45 PM, October 2, 2011
I really enjoy doing the Terry Fox Run. My mom's auntie is in remission from cancer, my grandad had a kidney removed because of cancer, and my 2 great grandfather's died of cancer. I like to do all I can to help find a cure so no one else I know and love gets this disease. I hope the money raised helps to find a cure. I always try and get more sponsors every year. A couple times, I have won prizes at school for getting the most sponsors.

We live in a small community on the north coast of Labrador. This is the first time that we have put major efforts into raising money for the Terry Fox Foundation. With only 108 students from K-12, our goal was for everyone to bring in $1 during out Terry Fox run. We decided that we should challenge the students and staff having different money milestones with different challenges for our staff if the students were to reach the goal. We never thought that we would reach our $500+ goal, however, we did!! WOW!! One of our male staff members told students that he would allow the main organizers (Gr. 7 class) to fully wax his legs! This will be the highlight of our challenge, however, more staff will be joining him in the pain. Great job ACMS!!!

My boy David has been under treatment for leukemia since the week of Halloween last fall. Yesterday he came home from first grade, singing his head off in the Terry Fox song "Canadian hero, Terry Fox, bravery courage and love"

Today we had a clinic appointment and blood tests, but ... since there's always lots of waiting at Sick Kids Hospital anyway ... and since it was such a beautiful fall day, I waited to go downtown until after he was finished with all his laps.

Each time he came running around, his face was about this full of joy (as in the picture). We may not have been very organized about the money raising, and he certainly doesn't have an immune system worth writing home about at the moment, but man, can he ever run. And lots of the other classmates were quite full of good energy too, with high fives all around!

I needed a bit of iotsirapinn this weekend so I watched Into the Wind . After crying for an hour and half I realized what an impact this young man has had on my country, on the world and on myself. It has been years since I participated in a Terry Fox run but this year I will break that streak.
