Terry Fox embodies all the things I want us to aspire to be as a nation. He understood the power of many people working together. He understood the uncomplicated perfection of a simple message. He showed us that progress is hard work and doesn't always feel like a victory.

He becme a hero to multiple genertions because of his determintion to achieve what was thought impossible, and to do it no matter the constant pain and adversity. It is impossible to drive past the monument outside Thunder Bay without stopping to pay respect and to wonder how I would measure up.

I was 11 years-old when Terry ran through my hometown. Years later in high school, I attended a program at the Terry Fox Centre in Ottawa and Darryl spoke to us. I was in awe of Terry. Who knew that 22 years later, my own daughter would be diagnosed with cancer. Today, Terry is her hero.

I'm a little ashamed to admit that I didn't know who Terry Fox was until Steve Nash's excellent and super underrated ESPN 30 for 30 film that introduced him to America. I keep his photos up at my office desk to remind me that the impossible is done into the wind by hardwork and determination. #Hero

Terry Fox has been my hero since the day I looked out the window of Westfield Elementary school in Grand Bay-Westfield, New Brunswick and saw him bravely running through his pain by our school. It wasn't until many years later that I would realize what a hero he would become. Terry was selfless.

I was 19 and in my first year at the University of Waterloo in 1980. Eating in the cafeteria when they turned up the radio news. We heard Terry's haulting voice telling us that the cancer was back and he would need to stop his run. The room went earily silent. Then a few sobs. We loved our Terry Fox

I stood out in school when I answered that Terry Fox is my hero after everyone else named a comic book character. 30 years later, my pre-race tradition is to wear my Terry Fox tshirt attempting to channel his courage, perserverance and all that heart he put into his goal.

Canada means freedom, happiness and Healthcare!! When my daughter had cancer we were so grateful not to have to pay for scans, chemo, doctor visits or hospital overnights! Even her specialized radiation in the US was paid for. We are forever grateful to live in Canada!!

Wrapped in the name Terry Fox, are a multitude of conflicting emotions: from cancer and loss to accomplishment and bravery. Where I teach my son where true grit and determination comes from to fight cancer, become a survivor and why we run for Terry.

Hi, Terry Fox is the greatest Canadian to ever live. I don't think I'll ever see another person to leave a legacy so big, after they pass away. Other Canadians have done amazing things for this country, but none have risked their life in order to save others with his Marathon of Hope.
