Student Fundraising Tips Page

In April and May of 1980, during the early days of the Marathon of Hope, Terry had the opportunity to visit schools and talk with students about his experience with cancer and why he was running. The simplicity of his message, combined with his sincerity and compassion, inspired students to raise funds for cancer research. More than three decades later, that very same story has the power to move and motivate new generations for the cause of cancer research.

Terry Foxers are asked to contribute what they can, keeping in mind that Terry was all about the effort, about taking himself to the limit for the cause. By using a pledge sheet or raising funds online, you are making a special effort in honour of Terry. We know it is not easy to ask for donations but Terry was all about effort, and you are clearly following his example!

Online Fundraising for Students:

You are now able to have your own Terry Fox personal fundraising page!

After signing up with the help of a parent/guardian, you can start asking for donations using your electronic address book. You will be able to track your donations and thank your donors directly. Your school will also be able to track your progress to include in their final tally.

When you complete your personal web page you have the opportunity to write a message about why you are participating – everyone who clicks on your link will read that message. Make that opportunity count with a thoughtful and passionate message.

Your donors can be confident in donating via a secure webpage. The funds are automatically deposited in our bank account and a tax receipt is generated in the space of 5-10 minutes.

Student-Savvy Tips on Using Paper Pledge Sheets:

  • The Terry Fox Foundation discourages door-to-door solicitation.
  • Prepare a response for the question « Why do you believe in Terry Fox? »
  • Ask your parents and relatives for donations.
  • Always be courteous and polite when asking for donations.
  • Ask your parents if they can bring the pledge sheet to work to raise more funds.
  • Keep careful track of your pledge sheets and funds.
