New York City Terry Fox Run
Although Terry was competitive in nature it was his request that the Terry Fox Run be an all-inclusive, non-competitive family oriented fun Run. The Foundation continues to honour Terry's wishes, more than 31 years after his Marathon of Hope. The Terry Fox Run in New York City is not a race, however, for the Run to be held in Central Park, race bibs and a timing clock are required. Thank you to everyone who supported the Terry Fox Run in New York City, making it another tremendous success!
"It was very cold and rainy from about Thursday of last week through yesterday (Sunday) and there was a 90% chance of rain on Saturday morning, in fact, a major storm was predicted and we were getting so many emails about the weather we had to send out a reminder to everyone that the run would be held rain or shine. In fact, about the only time it did not rain or was not very cold and windy over the weekend was on Saturday morning during our run. Weather was cool, but no rain and no wind so actually quite pleasent running temperature - we had a few sprinkles of rain just as we were giving away our draw prizes for all the participants. I have to tell you the following true story: As a Canadian living in New York one gets used to all the weather reports that frequently report on the cold front, snowstorm, blizzard, bad weather, etc. - coming down from Canada. On Saturday morning, when we were anticipating the big rainstorm, just before our run started someone came up to me and said she had just heard on the radio that un unexpectedly strong high pressure system from Canada had reached the New York area Saturday morning and this Canadain high pressure system had pushed the rainstorm further south and east and over the ocean so that it missed New York City on Saturday morning. Clearly, someone was looking out for us." -- Ken Ottenbreit
